A short vignette - a story from the the land known to the reader from 'The Fall of the Kings'. The ideas of magic and of the relation between the king and the land (and the wizard) are brilliant and the style is, as always in the author's case, flawlessly beautiful, with the interplay between the main narrative and the 'chronicle' excerpts. I wish it were longer, though - I wish there was something between the king-sorcerer meeting and the death scene, and I wish I knew more about Rosamond and her fate in the latter part of the story.
