This is a well-done six-chapter biography of someone who should be considered an American treasure. Having grown up in San Francisco, Levi Strauss has always held a bit of intrigue for me but this is the first time I've really read about the man who invented my fine looking 501 jeans. I had my fourth grader read it for her study of California history and she wouldn't put it down. It made for a great discussion and added another layer of paint to our vision of California in the 1800s. So Mr. Blue Jeans gets a big thumb's up from each of us.
